SELF-ADHERED BUTYL FLASHING DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A DURABLE, WEATHER-TIGHT SEAL AGAINST AIR, WATER, AND MOISTURE INFILTRATION IN BUILDING ENVELOPE APPLICATIONS
Henry® Blueskin® Butyl Flash is a high-performance self-adhered flashing membrane consisting of a synthetic butyl compound integrally laminated to a white engineered polypropylene film surface. The membrane is designed to adhere to prepared substrates to create a durable barrier against air, water, and moisture vapor.
Blueskin Butyl Flash is commonly used around windows and doors, sheathing joints, and other vulnerable areas of the building envelope to prevent water and air infiltration in both residential and commercial construction.
FEATURES
-
Impermeable barrier – protects against air, water, and moisture vapor infiltration
-
Self-adhered installation – fast and easy application with strong bond to prepared substrates
-
Self-sealing membrane – seals around fasteners and punctures for added protection
-
Excellent cold weather adhesion – performs well in a wide range of temperatures
-
Flexible membrane – conforms easily to irregular surfaces and transitions
APPLICATIONS
- Window and door flashing
- Sheathing joint flashing
- Air barrier transition detailing
- General purpose concealed flashing
- Residential and commercial building envelope systems
INSTALLATION NOTES
Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, excess mortar, or sharp protrusions. Acceptable substrates include concrete, CMU, gypsum sheathing, wood, primed steel, aluminum, and galvanized metal.
For optimal adhesion on masonry or concrete substrates, apply Henry® Blueskin® Spray Prep or Aquatac™ Primer and allow it to dry before installing the membrane.
Install flashing by positioning the membrane, removing the release liner, and pressing firmly into place. Roll the membrane with a countertop roller to ensure full adhesion. Overlap all seams a minimum of 2 inches and orient laps in a shingle fashion to shed water.
LIMITATIONS
Blueskin Butyl Flash is designed for temporary exposure of up to 150 days but must be covered as soon as practical after installation. The membrane is not intended for permanent UV exposure.
The membrane is compatible with rigid PVC and many sealants but is not compatible with EPDM, flexible PVC, or plasticized vinyl membranes.
