AIR-SHIELD BUTYL FLASHING is a primerless, self-adhering composite membrane designed for extreme cold weather applications down to 10°F (-12°C). It features a white woven polyethylene facer and an easy-release split-face PET (polyester) backing. This versatile membrane serves as an air, vapor, and liquid moisture barrier, ideal for flashing rough openings, windows, detailed transitions, and other critical non-roof areas.
Its lightweight construction, high puncture resistance, and factory-controlled thickness provide consistent performance while protecting surfaces from incidental damage during installation. Designed for compatibility with the full AIR-SHIELD product line, it ensures a complete, reliable building envelope system.
USES
AIR-SHIELD BUTYL FLASHING protects against water infiltration in key detail areas, including:
- Window and door openings
- Deck-to-wall intersections
- Corner boards and wall-to-wall tie-ins
- Foundation sill plates
- Sheathing panel seams
- Masonry walls
It can be applied without primer to substrates such as concrete, steel, copper, stainless steel, galvanized steel, untreated wood, insulated concrete forms (ICFs), extruded insulation board, and exterior-grade fiberglass mat gypsum board. Treated lumber, OSB, and plywood may require primer depending on surface conditions.

STORAGE
