WHY MTI RETROFIT WEEPS?

The MTI Retrofit Weep™ system is the one and only COMPLETE retrofit weep system. It allows moisture to exit the brick veneer from the brick cavity to the exterior of the structure. Designed for use with MTI’s Retrofit Brick Tie™ system, this affordable solution is ideal for restoration projects.

MTI RETROFIT WEEP™ INSTALLATION

1. Remove all deteriorated material from the area to be retrofitted.
2. Replace any structural components as needed, avoiding replacement of exterior sheathing.
3. Vacuum clean the area to be retrofitted.
4. Determine the lowest brick bed or head joint at the area to be retrofitted.
5. Hammer drill a 3/8″ hole in the bed or head joint mortar at this low point. The masonry drill bit should reach the brick cavity plus 1″. Remove all drilling debris.
6. Apply Helix two-part epoxy bonding agent (HIT-RE 500 V3) to MTI Retrofit Weep™ (MRW 3804) installed on the MTI Retrofit Weep Installation Tool™ (WIT 1404). Use the friction fit O-ring option if required.
7. Install MTI Retrofit Weep™ (MRW 3804) into the 3/8″ hole using the MTI Retrofit Weep Installation Tool™ (WIT 1404). The exterior end should be flush with the mortar surface, and the interior end should extend into the brick cavity by approximately 1/4″.
8. Insert MTI Retrofit Weep Rod™ (RWR 1406) into MTI Retrofit Weep™ and extend it approximately 2” into the brick cavity. Use a mechanical drill if needed.
9. Apply MTI Retrofit Weep™ fluid-applied flashing generously using an airless spray wand or brush. Avoid flooding the area.
10. Field-fabricate and install MTI Sure Cavity® (SC 5016) against the interior backside of the brick veneer with the fabric facing the building's interior. Ensure the 3” bottom skirt lays across the bottom of the brick cavity. Foam-fill the remaining cavity and remove the MTI Retrofit Weep Rod™.
